Oh my goodness! What can I say ... I drove by our house after work today, and here's the sight that met my eyes:
The two holes in the front are for the lifting steel. Unfortunately, they brought their 50' beams, which are going to be too long for them to remove after the house is rotated, given the narrowness of the space between us and our neighbors on either side. Apparently they will be returning on Monday with their 40' beams. These beams are long enough for everything other than the bay window at the rear of the house, and they can support this with auxiliary beams attached to the main one. I think the original thought was to use the 50' ones just because it would be easier to deal with the bay window that way. They are also positioning some of the supports in the basement today and tomorrow, although I couldn't take any pictures of that yet.
Here are some other views. First the back porch (southeast and southwest corners) and then the back where the bay window is, and finally a rear view of the front porch (north side).
A few more bits of information:
* The lifting may still possibly take place on Wednesday, but more likely Thursday or even, possibly, Friday. I'll keep everyone updated on that.
* The entire turning process takes under an hour, plus maybe another half hour to get the house into its final position.
* Wolfe guesstimates that our house weighs about 200 tons; however, they'll be able to tell us exactly once it is lifted.
* Looks like the sewer pipe is deep enough that the house won't need to be elevated beyond its original position relative to grade. That's something that was unknown until now and would have been annoying to deal with.
* They discovered today that we had a water leak in our incoming water line. So one more little advantage to doing this project is that that will be fixed!
Love it! So excited for you.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Will there be some sort of video of the turn available, or will I have to pack up the family and make the drive.
ReplyDelete50 foot beams would have made a great "Welcome to the Internet" moment. You could have just left them for a conversation piece.
Definitely planning on a video. We need to investigate how to do some kind of time-lapse video so it's not an hour long!
